Master Campers

Operating from base camps at Udawalawe and Wilpattu, Master Campers provide luxury tents with en suite bathrooms, five course dinners and guided tours. Spot elephants, leopards, deer, crocodile, langur, jackals, wild buffalo and exotic species of birds in varying concentration at the parks. The chefs prepare your food from fresh local ingredients at the campsite and carbon footprint minimising practices are in place.

Accommodation

Master Campers provide camps with all amenities including hot and cold water, en suite bathrooms, phone charging, fresh linen and towels, alfresco dining and constant supply of food and drinks. The camps are designed not to encroach on the habitat.

Facilities and activities

Personalized services are provided to meet individual traveler needs. A variety of activities are available at the campsite and these can be booked in advance to enhance your experience. Fishing in freshwater lakes is ideal in the park settings and equipment will be provided.

You can also go swimming in these waters. There are plenty of nature trails to follow with the experts, and raft rides on the lake can give you unparalleled access to bird habitats and excellent views.

Kulu Safaris

Kulu Safaris operate in Yala, Udawalawe and Wilpattu National Parks. The base camp is situated in Yala and it is the largest. A bungalow is available for accommodation in Wilpattu on an elephant corridor near a watering hole. Guided by professional naturalists who have considerable experience, Kulu offers a luxury camp experience with eco-friendly practices that include a No Plastic policy.

Modified jeeps are deployed for game safaris and animal tracking. Most of the power consumed at the camps is generated by solar energy and rechargeable batteries, and a fully organic waste management system is in place.

Accommodation

All tents used at Kulu Safaris have been custom-made in South Africa by one of the world’s leading safari outfitters. Tents over 200 sq. ft. secured on raised wooden platforms are found in the Yala camp. Each tent includes a small deck (a verandah) for sitting down and relaxing, en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold showers and fly screens for ventilation and keeping out critters.

You can explore several Blocks in Yala with their wildlife excursions. Kulu also has a mobile safari option for bespoke camping per customer request. These tents are smaller, comfortable and well-equipped. The mobile camping provides a more ‘off the beaten track’ experience, especially for film crews, wildlife documentary crews and nature photographers.

Facilities and activities

You can go kayaking at the Yala Camp and enjoy a closer encounter with nature. Jungle walks with the guides help you to learn the art of animal tracking, animal behavior and birding. In the vicinity of the Yala camp there are historic and cultural sites such as Kataragama (a sacred place for Hindus and Buddhists) and Situlpawwa (an ancient jungle monastery dating back to 2nd century BC). You can visit these sites with Kulu Safaris. There is also the secret sunset location to mark the end to an adventurous day and this is a must-discover.

Mahoora

Mahoora safari camps are found in 11 national parks in Sri Lanka. These are Yala, Udawalawe, Wilpattu, Wasgamuwa, Bundala, Gal Oya, Sinharaja, Knuckles, Minneriya, Kumana and Horton Plains. Accommodation

Mahoora tented accommodations have comfortable raised beds, en-suite toilette, hot and cold water showers, sitting area and device charging facility. Elite accommodation, which is carpeted throughout, provides a large bed or two single beds per requirement, a living area with sofa, easy chairs and a mini library with lighting.

There is also an en suite bathroom and baggage rack. It can be converted for triple sharing. Premium accommodation provides an outdoor furnished sitting area. Explorer accommodation also offers a verandah/porch relaxation area with coffee table and chairs.

Bed linen, towels, bottled water, flashlight, slippers, an umbrella, coffee table, shoe rack and foldable arm chairs are also included at the tents. Beverages, alcoholic drinks, tea and coffee are served at the camp. You can look forward to a five course dinner with signature dishes, BBQ around the fire and a la carte menus. Chilled and hot drinks and snacks are supplied on safari.

Facilities and activities

Laptops, digital cameras and phones can be charged at the campsites. First aid facility is available and staff is trained for medical emergencies. Two game drives are provided each day – a morning drive and a late afternoon drive. All national park fees are included in the package.

Facilities and activities

All meals, snacks and drinks are served and are also included in the package along with National Park fees. Binoculars, umbrellas and rain ponchos are supplied. A wildlife library is available for reading purposes and animal identification with the experts for in depth knowledge. There are cooking classes at the site as well as bird watching, amature photography walks, wildlife walks and stargazing. Games and activities designed for kids too are available, such as animal footprint games, animal identification and amateur photography walks.
