Giving you a holiday mixture of the city and the quiet, The Stone House is an ideal place to stay when in Kandy. Just a five minutes’ drive from central Kandy, so popular attractions such as Temple of the Tooth and the Kandy Lake are easily accessible. Yet, a quiet and isolated location, providing for a relaxing stay in the cool hills of Kandy. The Stone House is promoted as more of a private villa than a hotel, therefore abiding by the slow paced atmosphere, the villa does not have any set meal times for guests to adhere to. Guests are free to relax, undisturbed, feel at home, and thereby set the pace themselves.
Upon entering The Stone House, guests are taken back in time to the slow paced era of the 1940s. Initially built as a colonial mansion, it was referred to as the ‘Gal Bangalawa’, which translates to a house built with stone. The large private garden amidst the Hunnasgiriya Mountain Range is a pleasant sight to the eyes and a lovely environment for relaxing outdoors.
The staff are committed towards providing warm and efficient service to make sure guests take home idyllic and unforgettable moments. The unique and exquisite cuisine is prepared with special care for guests who decide to dine in-house. In catering to meals, the chef makes use of fresh herbs to bring life to dishes – ranging from starters to desserts, keeping in mind the importance of rice as a staple dish in Sri Lanka. The Stone House team can also arrange private outdoor dining facilities upon request for you to enjoy a meal with a view at any time of the day.
The teak floored master bedroom is huge in itself and also has a large luxury bathroom and a private Jacuzzi, along with views of surrounding valleys. The private suite comes with an attached study/living room, a large double bedroom and an attached luxury bathroom – with view of the Hunnasgiriya Mountain Range. The common living room upstairs has a library and a private garden. The two bedrooms downstairs come with attached bathrooms and views of the quiet green gardens. All rooms are furnished in cool white with a contrast of teak ceilings.
